Storytelling, live, person to person , is one of the oldest skills and art forms which still today can conjure up a generous, enlivened atmosphere of wonder. Whether at seasonal celebrations, linked to a specific theme, or purely for entertainment, all occasions are suitable for storytelling, and all ages for listening.

Telling tales:

Heroes and heroines, magical journeys and characters, tales of the forest or sea, classic or traditional folktales…my telling usually includes riddles, a tune or a song. I have told stories to children, to family and to adult audiences. I have told in schools, libraries, museums, castles, tipi’s, theatres and pubs , forests and glasshouses.

Stories and Art:

When an art session follows stories, the results are always dramatic. Storytelling involves very active listening, and this ingagement of imagination and attention opens doors to creativity of all kinds. I combine art and stories when the situation allows, as they are a perfect compliment.

Projects:

I have been involved with a number of projects linking storytelling , and storytelling and art to specific exhibitions, or themes, both in museums and galleries in the Borders and in Edinburgh. In2007 I was involved in ‘Artfull~ space for stories’, a mental health and well-being pilot project , East Lothian. 2009, storytelling and art project with adults with learning difficulties, Borders.

Booking:

As part of the Scottish storytelling Directory, I adhere to their guidelines on fees, which currently (feb.2009) start at £120. Per half day (up to 2hrs storytelling) or £200 full day , plus travel expenses. Longer term projects, or those requiring a great deal of research, or an art element, negotiable.
